Dr. Appleton
Dr. Stephen Appleton is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon in Dallas and Frisco who specializes in the treatment of injuries and disorders of the hip and knee. He performs primary and revision hip and knee joint replacement surgery, as well as partial joint replacement, and is actively involved in research in the field.
Dr. Appleton received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont, and received further training at Duke University where he completed a fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery of the Hip and Knee. Dr. Appleton moved to Dallas at an early age and is a graduate of St. Mark’s School of Texas. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia while instructing and competing in skydiving.
In addition to his association with the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the Piedmont Orthopaedic Society, Dr. Appleton is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons.
Katy Neary
Katy Neary is Dr. Appleton’s Physician Assistant and has been working with him for many years.
Katy Neary, PA-C, focuses on hip & knee orthopedic surgery and practices alongside Dr. Steve Appleton in Dallas and Frisco, TX. Katy went into orthopedics because of her love for helping others. She loves to see the benefits patients receive from proper diagnosis and treatments such as injections, physical therapy, braces, surgery, and more. Her main service offerings include treating conditions such as hip and knee osteoarthritis, osteochondritis desicans, avascular necrosis, trochanteric bursitis, IT band syndrome, piriformis syndrome, Iliopsoas tendonitis, Pes Anserinus Tendonitis, chondromalacia patella, hip & knee strains and sprains, Surgical consultations, complications after knee or hip replacement surgery, and much more. She prides herself on her suturing ability to give the patient the best-looking incision possible, and also on her efficient intra-articular knee injection technique.
Katy Neary, PA-C, earned her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX, in 2017. And has been working alongside Dr. Steve Appleton since 2017.
Katy Neary, PA-C, strives to make every patient feel comfortable and confident in their chosen treatment plan by working together to make a combined and educated decision. Katy believes that patients who see her or Dr. Appleton receive exceptional care because of our well-oiled machine of a team. Between herself, Dr. Appleton, lead MA Rashida, and surgery scheduler Vanessa Alvarez, all of our patients are receiving the best all-around quality care to meet the patients’ needs.

Vanessa Alvarez
Vanessa Alvarez serves as the Surgery Scheduler for Appleton Orthopedics, where she helps guide patients through the surgical scheduling process with professionalism, compassion, and attention to detail. Working closely with Dr. Appleton and his team, Vanessa coordinates procedures, communicates with patients and care teams, and helps ensure each patient experience is organized, seamless, and supportive from consultation to surgery day.
Her patient-first approach and commitment to excellent service make her an important part of the Appleton Orthopedics team.
